Fundraising effort a "cent"sational success
Jondaryan Woolshed's damper hut will be refurbished thanks to money raised from this month's cent sale.
The Woolshed has been abuzz with activity this year following the "Return to the Woolshed" on the Australia Day weekend.
Constructions works, functions and tours have been keeping the diehard volunteers busy, including one Mary-Lou Wicks.
May-Lou, who grew up making damper in this hut with her mother said the Woolshed's cent-sale event (held on April 1) was well-supported by the community
"It was excellent," she said.
"We had 200 people come through the door.
"Everyone enjoyed it.
"The whole lot goes to the damper hut."
After the cent-sale finished, the event raised over $7000 towards the upkeep and maintenance of the damper hut.
She said the event wouldn't have been possible without the support of volunteers from near and far.
"A big shout out to everyone who helped at the cent sale becuase without the volunteers, it wouldn't have succeeded," she said.
"Thanks to all the local and surrounding business on the Darling Downs."
"City Golf Club gave $2000 worth of vouchers for the driving range."
Mary-Lou said unlike most cent-sales, this one was made up of all new items.
"We had meat vouchers and fruit from Pittsworth, rugs from Andersons in Dalby," she said
"We had heaps of earrings."
"Most cent sales involve second hand goods," but all of this stuff was new.
Mary-Lou said the event was supported by the Jondaryan State School, who provided catering.
"Andrew (Mirtschin, P&C President) said the State School enjoyed it and that it was wonderful," she said.
Casual staff worker at the Woolshed, Madi Faulkner said the success of the event was a testament to May-Lou's hard work.
"Mary-Lou took a week off to prepare for this event and a week off to cleanup after the event," Ms Faulkner said.
A committee has been created to arrange the plans for the 50th anniversary of the year the Woolshed was handed back to the community by the landholders.
