A female team, the Hellhounds, was the one team Hound Dog Fit had competing this year, comprising Holly Matchett (swim leg), Lindy Wilson (bike leg) and Jo Wilson (run leg).
The Hell of the West is considered one of Australia’s toughest triathlons, and attracts world class athletes.
Lindy Wilson, member of the team and Hound Dog Fit manager, said the team came in strongly to finish in first place for female teams in a time of 4:54:47, the only female team to come in under five hours.
“It consists of a 2km swim in the Macintyre River, an 80km bike ride along Goodar Road and a 20km run around the town,” she said.
“Conditions were hot and humid, with challenging headwinds for parts of the ride and run.
“Jo’s run was particularly impressive, the quickest 20km of all teams entered (male, mixed and female).”
Organised by the Goondiwindi Triathlon Club, the Hell of the West triathlon began in 1989 and in recent years has had over 900 competitors participating both individually and as part of teams, including children.
Hound Dog Fit has had up to three teams compete in past years.
