Green bins on the cards for Greenmount, Nobby
Greenmount and Nobby could be joining most of the rest of the region in being supplied with optional green waste bins by the end of the year.
Households in the townships of Greenmount, Nobby, Clifton and Ryeford all currently lack the option to use a green waste bin, in additional to the regular general waste bins and recycling bins.
Unlike general waste bins and recycling bins, green waste bins are not mandatory - they are opt-in.
Green waste bins are emptied every fortnight, on alternating weeks with recycling bins.
Toowoomba Regional Council Water and Waste Services Acting General Manager Jaek Passier said Council is in the preliminary stages of preparing a strategic expansion plan for kerbside collection services, including green waste and general waste/recycling for the southern area of the Region.
“The expansion plan is anticipated to be finalised in the second half of the year, subject to the continued availability of financial and human resources,” Mr Passier said.
“It is envisaged that the expansion plan will recommend:
If services should be expanded. If so, what services and locations;
Time frames and rollout; and
Change management process, including stakeholder engagement and a communication plan.
“Council is determined to provide more opportunities for greater kerbside collection services where there is a demonstrated need and as Budget priorities allow.
“Council has been keeping an expression of interest register for some years for those residents who would like to receive a kerbside collection service.”
Besides Toowoomba City and surrounds, other towns in the region already in the service area for green bins include Cambooya, Wyreema, Westbrook, Pittsworth, Millmerran and Hodgson Vale.
