Greenmount State School
Term 3 is off to a cracking start for the students and staff of Greenmount State School.

We welcomed our eager learners back and are set for an action-packed term together.
We concluded Term 2 with fabulous Greenmount spirit and sporting success at the Small Schools Athletics Carnival and loved watching our students give it their all. They threw, jumped, and sprinted while being cheered on by their friends.
We had a fabulous day with our cluster friends at the inaugural LitUp Literacy Program, hosted by Clifton State High School. We loved settling in with books, learning from authors and artists, and participating in workshops led by experts. It was a real thrill to hear, at the conclusion of the day, that we had been awarded Best Dressed for our fabulous hat creations.
We finished the day with a visit to the Clifton Museum and, with the help of our knowledgeable guides, learned so much about the rich history of our region and its tenacious pioneers.
The P–2 classroom had a fantastic time learning about how living things grow and change in Science. We were lucky enough to watch our little chicks grow, making our learning both exciting and memorable. We also linked our learning to Mathematics by holding a class vote to name the chicks, with Midnight and Stripe receiving the most votes. It sure was a super way to learn!
Our Playgroup pals have been busy creating and learning. They were super athletes on their impressive obstacle course, and they have been busy collecting items from nature and discussing connections to land and Country for NAIDOC Week. They then used their collections to paint and create masterpieces.
We welcomed many of our past students back to our school as we concluded our Biography Unit in the Years 3–6 classroom, and the connections and friendships formed have been wonderful to watch grow. Each of our students interviewed a former Greenmount State School student and then crafted a biography based on their experiences. Our interviewees graciously gave their time to reflect on their years at our school. We were privileged to hear from people spanning a wide range of ages, some with children, nieces and nephews, neighbours, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren currently enrolled at Greenmount State School. The genuine interest and enthusiasm our students showed towards those who once sat in our classrooms, and towards their vibrant and rich oral histories, was inspiring. History was truly brought to life, and our students developed a deep appreciation for the importance of recording and preserving these stories. We are incredibly grateful to all the wonderful former students who gave their time to be part of this process.
Our finished biographies will feature in Greenmount State School’s 125th Anniversary Celebrations book, and we can’t wait to share it with you all. Don’t forget to mark 12 September on your calendars as we come together to celebrate this milestone for our school and community.
Until next time, from our Small but Mighty school.
