High School student attends MSAC
Pittsworth State High School Year 10 student Stuart Coonan attended the recent Ministerial Student Advisory Council (MSAC) meeting in Brisbane.
MSAC has operated since 2018 with 18 representative students from state and non-state schools across Queensland.
It provides school students with the opportunity to speak directly with the Minister for Education and the Arts about a range of education matters.
At the most recent meeting, MSAC delegates provided feedback and insights on artificial intelligence in schools, the Olympic and Paralympic Games and active citizenship.
The students engaged in presentations led by departmental staff then workshopped their summary of discussions into a presentation to the Minister and Director-General.
The Principal Project Officer said the Council’s feedback was invaluable and will be considered in the ongoing work of the Department of Education.
Student evaluations of the meeting showed that they value:
hearing other diverse perspectives from students across Queensland on complex issues;
gaining insights they can take back to their schools to make a positive impact; and
having the opportunity to hear from and share their views with the Minister and Director-General.
Members for MSAC are selected through the Department of Education’s regional nomination process with two students chosen by the Minister for Education and the Arts to represent each region.
