Homegrown heroism
Isaac Anderson’s actions have been hailed as ‘heroic’ after the publican selflessly sprang into action to avert a potential car jacking in Toowoomba on Monday morning.

Isaac Anderson, publican of the Wheatsheaf Hotel at East Greenmount, had just pulled up for a chat with his mate ‘Yoogie’ Malone, a security guard at The Rock in Toowoomba, when a man, caused a stink when ‘Yoogie,’ didn’t allow him into the pokies room.
It seemed as if the man was on a stimulant narcotic.
After an expletive ridden tirade, they watched him head over to a Ford Ranger, hop in and begin an altercation with two people in the vehicle, a man and a woman.
That’s when Isaac sprang into action,
“I was still actually holding my coffee, so I started running over and saw they were fighting, so I pegged that to the side and grabbed him and pulled him out,” Isaac told The Clifton Courier.
He had to head to work as the Wheatsheaf was without a cook, but Yoogie called the police.
Isaac doesn’t blame the alleged offender pulled from the Ranger - he feels for him if anything.
“Its an escape for them I think,” he said.
“I reckon they’ve had some bad stuff go on, bad mates, or even just self esteem issues,” Isaac said.
When asked what he’d say to the man, Isaac said depending on the manner in which they spoke, there’s a good chance he’d offer him a chance: a job at the pub, though he’d have only once chance, Isaac added with wry grin.
On Tuesday morning he was also glad to report he’d found a new cook - he puts it down to good karma.
A believer in helping out and right and wrong, it wasn’t the first time the publican has had to leap into an uncertain situation, nor will it likely be the last.
One thing’s for sure, Isaac is a bloke who cares, and who isn’t scared to lend a hand.
