The Australasian Dance Education Awards seek to recognise the hard work of teachers, studio owners and high school dance teachers and to raise awareness of the importance of dance education and the impact it can have on individuals and communities.

There are seven regional finalists from around Australia.

iDance Studios Principal Miss Carla Tierney, who will be attending the Awards Ceremony on the Gold Coast today, said it’s the first time the Academy has been nominated for the award.

“We were nominated by families within our studio,” she explained.

“After we were nominated I had to complete a lengthy application process with lots of information about our studio.

“This then went to a judging panel of industry professionals and (we were) judged as a finalist.

“It feels amazing to just be nominated by our families.

“I was very honoured to even be considered for the award, let alone a finalist amongst some truly inspiring studios from around Australia.”

The hope of the Australasian Dance Education Awards is that highlighting the accomplishments of studios will inspire and motivate educators to pursue their passion and showcase their skills on a larger platform that can elevate the art form and promote its continued growth and success in Australia and New Zealand.

An ADEA spokesperson said it had been a time of challenging time for studios during COVID.

“Being forced to navigate through a global pandemic certainly challenged many dance studio owners who had to muster the moxie to find a way through the chaos,” they said.

“Running a business at the best of times comes with its challenges, but the last couple of years really tested patience, finances, and sanity of many dance studio owners across the industry as well as the dance industry as a whole.”
