The memorial was severely damaged when struck by a motor vehicle earlier this year.

The restoration project involves intricate carvings and fabrication to ensure the Anzac memorial is reinstated to its full glory in 2024.

Council is collaborating with the RSL and a local supplier to meticulously repair and replace elements of the Memorial.

Toowoomba Regional Council Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said Council is appreciative of the RSL’s efforts behind the scenes in attempting to source funding to assist with the restoration project.

Cr McMahon said the Cambooya Memorial Park extends beyond the Anzac memorial itself.

“In recent years, the park has seen the refurbishment and realignment of an artillery piece,” he said.

“This significant artefact now stands proudly on a new concrete base, creating a cohesive and prominent location alongside the Anzac memorial.

“The collective efforts of Council and the local supplier reflect a dedication to maintain heritage and provide a space that fosters remembrance and reflection for generations to come.

“Council thanks the community for its patience and support as we complete the restoration and enhancement initiatives,” Cr McMahon said.

“Council is committed to maintaining a cherished area where the community can pay tribute and reflect on the sacrifices and deeds of our service personnel.”
