It was a wet one last week
From Tuesday to Friday Cliftonites were counting their blessings as patches of rain accumulated in a hefty downpour on Thursday afternoon.
Rainfall has been below average for about a year around Clifton.
Dry conditions as well as other pressures have seen plenty of producers decide not to plant this cold season.
However for those who have, last week’s rain would have seemed the answering of many prayers.
On Tuesday the 24th rainfall around Clifton ranged from 10mm to 20mm.
However on Thursday, the real wet came.
Thursday morning saw some early showers, with puddles already forming around town.
There were reports of rainfall of up to 17.6mm by 9am, which, with the afternoon downpour, blew out to well over an inch of rain with reports of 20-30mm across the district.
Thursday afternoon was particularly rowdy, with many motorists parking their vehicles under whatever cover was available, with huge black clouds encroaching from the north west being a bit too reminiscent of the November 1 storm last year and enough for drivers not to risk leaving cars without cover.
