On Sunday, March 17, the first regional series tournament of the year was held at Iona State College in Brisbane.

Pittsworth Sokaijin Judo Club’s (PSJC) 2023 Novice of the Year recipient Dacian Southey was our only representative who competed in the tournament.

Dacian did himself and PSJC proud by receiving a gold medal for his efforts.

He competed in the Under 24kg Junior Boys Division.

Dacian won his first fight with an Ippon (full score throw landing his opponent square onto his back with both shoulder blades hitting the canvas mat simultaneously), using an O Soto Gari (major outer leg reap).

In his next fight he also won with an Ippon using an O Goshi (major hip throw).

We would like to congratulate Dacian for gaining a gold medal for his performance.

Super effort, mate!

PSJC training times are 6.30pm to 8pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Judo is a martial art/sport which is a great way to keep fit, have fun, learn how the human body moves and reacts to being off balance, and how to capitalise on these motions in order to bring to the ground, from a standing position.

Ground work is also a major facet of Judo, and using Osekomi pinning/hold down techniques.

Arm bars, chokes, or strangles are reserved for Judoka (students 15 years old and above).

It teaches discipline, respect (both for self and others), honour, strength and flexibility to name but a few of Judo’s many qualities.

PSJC caters for students who can start at any age, with no experience, though preferably from 5 years old, considering the attention span of the individual.

PSJC prides itself with two coaches who are 1st Dan Black Belt Senseis.

Come down to Pittsworth Sokaijin Dojo located behind the Pittsworth Tennis Courts, Bridgman Oval, to have a look at what we do!
