Keeping history alive of Australian Light Horse
This coming weekend members of the Australian Light Horse Association will visit Allora to commemorate the end of the Boer War.
Each year at the end of May the Troop holds special services, mainly in the country areas. Last year they went to Gatton which was only the second place to have a dedicated Boer War Memorial. The first being Allora and the third being Brisbane. They last visited Allora in 2022.
Members of the Light Horse Association head to many places around Queensland like Roma, Winton and Longreach to attend special events such as Heavy Horse Festivals, Parades and Anzac Day services.
Plans for the visit to Allora this weekend –
Due to the number of restrictions and official paperwork required to close local streets members of the Australian Light Horse Association will not be parading around town.
Between 15 and 20 Light Horse members will arrive in Allora on Saturday and make camp at the Showgrounds. In the evening they will enjoy a meal at the Wattle Café in the Allora RSL Building
On Sunday at 9am the Troop will move from the Showgrounds to the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Park in Warwick Street for a Service out at the Cenotaph.
Members of the public are most welcome to attend.
