Landcare competition identifies budding photographers
Having recently held its photo competition to encourage budding photographers in our region to get creative behind the lens, the Pittsworth District Landcare Association (PDLA) last week announced the winners in each category.
With this year’s theme being Spring, photographers had to take an image of the local environment, including flora, fauna and landscape shots.
Those who entered had to be Pittsworth residents and take their photo in the six weeks between August 15 and September 30.
Photos had to be taken in the Pittsworth district.
Three categories - primary school, secondary school and open.
The winner in each category received a $50 Pittsworth Dollars card, runners-up were given a $25 Pittsworth Dollars card, and those who were awarded a highly-commended received a $15 Pittsworth Dollars card.
This year, the winner of the primary school category was Sarah Hegarty with her photo of the Noisy Miner, the secondary school winner was Jessica Hegarty with her photo of the Rainbow Lorikeet, and Jen Summers won the open category with the image of the Azure Kingfisher.
Harlow Reynolds was the runner-up in the primary school category and Lilian Sharp, Sofia Thornber and Faith Sharp all received highly-commended prizes.
Pittsworth District Landcare Association President Alastair Silcock said although the number of entries in this year’s competition was down, the PDLA were pleased to see some fantastic photos.
“Last year’s photo competition in Autumn 2020 was very successful, attracting over 130 images for the judges,” Mr Silcock said.
“Entries this time were very sparse, but at least the most interest was from primary school children, so that’s encouraging for the future.”
Mr Silcock said the competition also presented residents with the opportunity to learn more about photography and working with cameras.
“In conjunction with the competition, we also engaged local photographer Inge Gajczak to run workshops for adults and children in September at the Function Centre,” he said.
“We had to cancel the adults one due to lack of numbers, but again encouragingly there was reasonable interest from the younger generation.”
Mr Silcock congratulated those who entered on their camera work and thanked them for their interest in the local environment.
