Local farmers excel in crop competition

The Pittsworth Show’s field crop competition this year received a record number of entries in both the winter and summer crop sections - a testament to the quality of the farming industry in our region.

Clemens Waetjen (centre) of Yarramalong Farming, received first place in the irrigated wheat competition. Presenting his award was PB Agrifood representative Peter Brodie and 2024 Junior Showgirl Jess Hegarty.

The winter crop competition attracted a total of 41 wheat and barley entries, while the summer crop competition received 40 sorghum, 11 cotton and four chickpea entries.

This new record is a result of the dedication and determination of stewards Marilyn White and Trisha Krautz, who spent a great deal of time touching base with local farmers to encourage more entries.

This year’s competition had overwhelming support with over $10,000 worth of prizes donated by sponsors.

A new addition to the show this year was the Champion Sheaf of the Show.

This was judged from all first place winners, of all varieties of sheaves and was won by Trevor Kohler with his Panorama Millet sheaf.
