Locals freshen up Kingsthorpe Hall

A group of motivated volunteers, including five local veterans, have been working hard over the last few weeks at the Kingsthorpe War Memorial Hall culminating in a big working bee on Saturday.

The effort was led by local Jesse Noonan, who thought of the idea after attending the Summer Tunes event at the hall with his family last month.

Together with Audrey Herridge, whose family owns a Torrington-based paints business which donated the supplies, and the support of generous Toowoomba-based hardware and rental equipment businesses with local connections, the effort commenced in large part on Saturday.

Jesse, who is a veteran himself, enlisted the support of four others, who were motivated to present the hall as something the town can be proud of.

“It’s literally the one place apart from the pub that people can meet in town,” he said.

“It’s such a beautiful hall but some parts of it hadn’t been painted for a long time.

“It’s the backbone of Kingsthorpe."

Audrey Herridge says coming from a family that had moved into the area a few years ago, it was a good way her family’s Toowoomba-based business could help support the local community.

The hall will be the venue for an ANZAC Day 2pm service.
