Locals invited to join endurance horse ride at Southbrook

The Toowoomba Endurance Horse Riders Association (TEHRA) is excited to host its annual endurance ride at the Southbrook Sports Club on 21–22 March and is encouraging local horse riders to come along and try the sport for the first time.

TEHRA is an affiliated club of the Queensland Endurance Riders Association (QERA), and the Southbrook ride is one of the earliest events on the endurance calendar each season.

The event has built a strong reputation as a well-organised and welcoming ride where horse welfare and rider safety are always the top priority.

Newcomers are particularly encouraged to take part, with experienced club members on hand to provide guidance, strapping support and assistance for the veterinary checks.

All rides will take place on the afternoon of Saturday 21 March, with 20km, 40km and 80km distances on offer.

For riders who have ever considered trying endurance, the 20km introductory ride offers the perfect opportunity to give it a go in a supportive and friendly environment.

The course travels along quiet country roads and private property around Southbrook and Wyreema, providing a scenic and enjoyable ride.

Endurance riders range from young children through to seniors, and while many horses are Arabian or part-Arabian, the shorter distances attract a wide variety of breeds including stock horses, thoroughbreds and standardbreds.

The event brings competitors from across South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales to Southbrook, providing a welcome boost for the local community.

Now in its third year at the Southbrook Sports Club, the ride has helped bring renewed activity to the grounds, supporting facility improvements and generating visitors for local businesses.

Residents have also enjoyed seeing the grounds come alive with horses and riders throughout the weekend.

TEHRA sincerely thanks the event’s major sponsors Hip Pocket Workwear Toowoomba, Briese Lawyers, Wilson’s Towing, Randlab, Clifton Pharmacy, Target Pest Control, Livewired Electrical and Cold Sense Air Conditioning - whose support helps make the Southbrook ride possible.

They also extend their sincere appreciation to the many additional sponsors, including numerous local businesses, who generously donate prizes and support the event each year.

Local horse riders interested in trying the 20km ride, volunteering, or learning more about endurance riding can find further details on the Toowoomba Endurance Horse Riders Association Facebook page.

Nominations for the Southbrook ride will open via the AERA Online website in early March.
