Locals pack Showgrounds for Street Feast

Many of Oakey’s young families flocked to the Oakey Showgrounds on Sunday night (19th May) for an event called “Street Feast”.

Street Feast started as the sun was setting behind the food vans at the Oakey Showgrounds.

Most people attended around sunset, with young families in particular taking the chance to attend.

Sam Kennedy attended the event with her family, and said she hoped the event would return to Oakey on the next round.

“It was good,” she said.

“A little more space would be nice.

“Hopefully on the second or third round it’ll come back.”

Lesley and Alan Hughes attended Street Feast for around an hour and commented on the number of young faces they could see.

“We didn’t recognise many faces either!” they said when asked about the demographic attending.

“It seemed a good location for it, I thought.

“A lot of people took it up and came along, especially young families.

“We couldn’t try everything... but a lot of things involved potato chips.

“(In that respect), it was maybe lacking a bit of variety.

“Another thing was we thought from the ad in the paper that there might be music, but we couldn’t hear any.

“A few food vans had music in the background, but that was it.”

Nitpicking aside, it was generally held by those in attendance that it was a great event for the town.
