Look around – patterns everywhere

Patterns are repetitions of shapes, lines, colours, or textures within an image. They can be natural or man-made. We are surrounded by patterns in our daily life, yet it was not until the Allora Photography Group was faced with this topic that it became blatantly apparent that patterns are everywhere! From walls to plants, farm machinery to cityscapes and even the shower our photographers got snapping and produced some interesting images.

We are grateful to all our judges for their time and expertise. Gerard Saide is a PSQ judge, he is also a life member of the Toowoomba Photographic and has served as the President of the Photographic Society of Queensland. In May, he attended our club meeting for the first time. It was interesting to get a different perspective as Gerard spoke about the emotions and feelings that photos evoke. This was wonderful timing as our topic in August is Evoking Senses and Emotions.

We are also pleased to welcome two new members to our club and look forward to continue to develop our photography skills together.

Gerard awarded a Merit to Glen Scott’s image “Stacked”. Alternating rows of the base and mouth of these cartridge cases make up a strong pattern.

Gale’s “Brick Illusion” seems to be alive and moving. There are so many patterns, the horizontal bricks, the feature bricks and their shadows, and the rays of sunlight. Gale received a Merit for her image.

“Suc-cute-lent” by Nieva Scott received a Merit. The black backdrop projects this suc-cute-lent forward and directs full attention on tightly packed leaves.

A pattern within a pattern. The water droplets are little lenses that pick up the background alternating shapes. Joanne Nehmer’s image titled “Shower” was awarded a Merit.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 7th July at 7pm at Bluecare, Allora Building, corner Forde and Warwick Streets, Allora. There is no charge to attend but a $2 donation for a cuppa and cake would be greatly appreciated.
