Lots happening at Clifton State High School
Retiring teachers, biggest morning teas, representative school sports, and even Bogan Bingo - the last few weeks have been busy at Clifton State High School CSHS).
RETIRING TEACHERS
In week 4, the school community came together to farewell two long-serving members of staff, Mrs Charlotte White and Mr Richard Collye.
Principal Lou Oberholzer said both staff members have spent many years within the education field across a number of locations with their final years spent at CSHS.
“We extend our appreciation to Mrs White and Mr Collyer for their commitment to our students and community and wish them well in the future,” Mr Oberholzer said.
Deputy Principal Alice James said both these staff members have been teaching for more than 45 years and the school community was pleased to be able to offer them specially made retirement gifts as well as a school assembly and morning tea prepared by the Hospitality students.
BIGGEST MORNING TEA
Last Wednesday, May 24th Mrs Kahler and her exceptional team of hospitality students hosted a Biggest Morning Tea for the dedicated staff of Clifton State High School.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, organised by the Cancer Council of Australia, raises money for cancer support and research.
SCHOOL SPORTS
The Darling Downs Cross Country trials saw nine CSHS students participate.
The top six place getters in each race were selected into the Darling Downs team.
Blake Mitchell finished 2nd, Isaac Newman finished 4th and May Turkington finished 5th.
These three will attend the cross-country state championships to be held at Hervey Bay in July.
Broncos Cup Round 1 was played in Goondiwindi.
Clifton entered one netball team and two rugby league teams.
The senior rugby league boys have entered the Toowoomba school boys competition.
They have played two matches, both at Platz Oval, against Pittsworth State High School and Concordia/Faith Lutheran, winning one match.
In motorsports, student Yamuna finished 6th in the Queensland Formula Vee Championships Open Wheeler Division.
BOGAN BINGO
CSHS’s major fundraiser of the year, Bogan Bingo, was well supported and those who attended had a great time and are looking forward to attending again.
Many guests got into the spirit, dressing up in their ‘best’ Bogan outfits and there were ‘guest’ appearances by well known and loved characters Kath, Kim and Sharon.
