Machinery galore at National Rally
The 19th NHMA National Machinery Rally, Australia’s largest display of working heritage equipment, and the Steaming Under the Southern Cross event took place at Kingsthorpe at the end of August.

On display was this Foden Steam Wagon owned by three generations of Felton’s Free family. It was manufactured in England in 1918 and first registered in Queensland in 1924. Les Free purchased it in 1952 and passed it down to son the late Bob and now grandson Peter has it.
Steaming Under the Southern Cross was assembled from local heritage groups Steaming on the Downs, TADOMS (Toowoomba and District Old Machinery Society) and the Queensland Vintage Machinery Association.
The event took place throughout last week from Saturday, 23 August to Sunday, 31 August and featured more than 500 exhibitors.
Earthmoving and black-smithing demonstrations ran alongside hundreds of machines on display.
There was also stump pulling, grand parades and tractor games for the kids, with trinkets and mementos to take home.
