Man arrested at Showgrounds after car chase

A man has been arrested at the Oakey Showgrounds this morning after evading police in a stolen car down the Warrego Highway.

Police will allege the man had gained entry to St Andrew's Hospital North Street at around 11.30pm on Sunday, April 19th removing a handbag before stealing a Hyundai i30 from the Hospital car park.

Police will further allege the man attempted to steal a vehicle from a Fifteen Mile Road property at Murphys Creek around 6am today, before leaving the scene in the stolen Hyundai.

Assisted by Polair, and after an encounter with a resident on Joseph St, Police tracked the stolen vehicle to the Oakey Showgrounds where he was arrested at around 8.30am.

The man has been charged with one count each of breaking and entering, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted robbery and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22nd.
