Millmerran lights up for Christmas
More than 200 people gathered at Domville Place on 1st December for the lighting of the community Christmas tree, marking the beginning of the festive season.

Millmerran Commerce and Progress Inc. (MCP) hosted the event and provided free drinks and a sausage sizzle for the community, thanks to the generosity of Genex.
"This is a lovely time for our community, to bring us all together and just enjoy what we have to offer, because we live in such a beautiful town," Nikki Macqueen, President of MCP, said.
Although it was the first day of summer, there was a cool breeze in the air, and it was a very pleasant evening.
The Millmerran State School Senior Concert Band, under the guidance of teacher and conductor Tracey Fox, entertained the crowd for 45 minutes with various pieces including the Man From Snowy River theme, a Michael Jackson medley, and All I Want For Christmas Is You.
The band comprised students from Grades 5 through to 9.
Solos were performed by Destiny Allen on alto saxophone and Luci Kerr on trumpet.
Just before seven o’clock, a countdown from ten began for the lighting of the Christmas tree.
When the moment came, the switch was flipped and the tree flickered to life in a rainbow of colours, crowned with a shining star.
Students from St. Joseph's Primary School then performed songs for the community.
The younger grades, who were bouncing with energy after their fizzy drinks and the anticipation of the tree lighting, sang a Christmas medley including Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and Run Run Rudolph.
The Christmas tree had been erected earlier that day with assistance from Genex, PCL and Captains Mountain Wind Farm.
It was a joy to see everyone come together to share in the spirit of togetherness, connection and hometown pride!
Even the streets are getting into the festive spirit with decorations popping up all over the town and in shopfronts.
