Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service facility now open

Darling Downs Health has announced that the new Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service (MPHS) facility has officially opened its doors to patients, while the decommissioning of the original facility is currently underway.

The demolition of the old facility is currently underway to allow for the development of a landscaped driveway and car park.

The new facility includes an eight-bed inpatient unit;  five-bed residential aged care space; dedicated acute and non-acute areas; and a new helipad.

Darling Downs Health Chief Executive Annette Scott said the previous Millmerran Multipurpose Health Service, which was built in the early 1950s, had serviced the community well but the upgraded facility would better address Millmerran’s growing health care needs.

“By investing in rural healthcare and upgrading these rural facilities, we’re bring high quality care, closer to home to help strengthen our communities,” Ms Scott said.

Alongside the construction of the new Millmerran MPHS, the neighbouring grounds of the Millmerran aged care facility have been upgraded as part of a separate infrastructure program, jointly funded by the Federal Government, Queensland Government, and Darling Downs Health.

Enhancements include a gazebo, barbecue area, fenced gardens, and accessible walkways designed to improve overall accessibility, enhance the experience for residents and visitors, and encourage outdoor mobility and engagement.

Ms Scott said the original Millmerran MPHS facility had become increasingly difficult to manage, and the demolition which is currently underway will allow for the development of a landscaped driveway and car park, that will seamlessly integrate with the new facility.

While the current  decommissioning continues, visitors can use the temporary carpark, located at Entrance 2, which is accessible via Commens Street.

Millmerran MPHS is part of the more than $1 billion Queensland Government funded Building Rural and Remote Health Program, which is dedicated to enhancing healthcare services in regional and remote communities.

Designed as a contemporary building the Millmerran MPHS encompasses a wide range of healthcare services, including emergency, acute and aged care for the thriving community and surrounding districts of Millmerran.
