More housing for those in need
Construction is commencing on Stage 2 of Vedette Villas within the Clifton Community Health Services (CCHS) complex, vastly expanding housing options for the district’s elderly.

A sod turning ceremony at the 31 Neville Street site was held yesterday morning by CCHS in conjunction with construction company Paynters.
Stage 2 will consist of eight one-bedroom and two, two-bedroom units to the west of the original Vedette Villas, backing onto the main CCHS complex which includes the hospital, nursing home and medical centre.
Construction is expected to be completed by July next year, approvals and weather dependent.
In attendance were CCHS board members including Chair Andrew Douglas, Capital Projects Committee members and staff including Executive Director Amelia Simpkins.
Representing the Queensland Government were Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O’Connor and local Member for Condamine Pat Weir.
CCHS Chair Andrew Douglas also thanked Toowoomba Regional Council for reduced fees and its assistance during the approval process.
Mr O’Connor said the State Government is committing over $5 million towards the project which he has been told could triple the number of social homes in Clifton.
He said there are nearly 500 public and community homes under contract or under construction on the Darling Downs.
The original Vedette Villas were built in 1986 as affordable independent living units for seniors and people living with a disability.
As well as the ten units for the elderly, plans are underway to construct two units for CCHS staff on the same plot of land, closer to Neville Road itself.
