Mt Tyson State School celebrates SES volunteers
This week, Mount Tyson State School proudly celebrated WOW Day in honour of SES volunteers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe during emergencies and natural disasters.
Students and staff dressed in orange to show their appreciation and support for the brave volunteers and the important work they do.
Throughout the day students participated in a range of fun and engaging activities focused on teamwork, safety, and community service.
They also welcomed one of the local SES volunteers, Gus Graham-Smith, to the school.
Gus shared valuable insight into the many responsibilities and events with which SES assists.
Students enjoyed hearing real life experiences and learning about the equipment and skills used by SES teams.
All students learned how to top a roof just like the SES do, so now they have their very own mini SES volunteers who can help at home.
They also participated in a time trial obstacle course where they had to save ‘Clive’ (a weighted chess piece and pretend human).
Some staff even participated but the school was unsure if they would want Miss Murphy to come to their rescue after she sent poor Clive flying across the Fort!
To make the day even more special, students enjoyed a delicious orange-theme meal deal and cupcakes kindly organised for the occasion.
It was a great day learning and celebrating the wonderful SES volunteers and they appreciated Gus Graham-Smith’s visit.
Thanks to the generosity of the school community, a total of $415.80 was raised and donated directly to the local SES unit to support additional equipment and training.
