Oakey Chamber executive elected, attend Toowoomba Regional Commerce meeting
Oakey’s peak advocacy body the Chamber of Commerce has elected its 2026/27 executive, with David Cooper remaining as President, his daughter Jess Briskey being elected as Secretary, and Lloyd Gill (Vice-President) and Betty Richter (Treasurer) retaining their positions.
Oakey Chamber of Commerce organises Santa Fair, and the town’s Carnival of Flowers float each year.
The group holds monthly meetings at 5.30pm on the second Saturday of each month.
On Friday morning (July 17th), newly re-elected Oakey Chamber of Commerce executive members David Cooper, Lloyd Gill and Jess Briskey attended a Toowoomba Regional Commerce meeting with Toowoomba Region Councillors and other town advocacy bodies.
The meeting started off with an informal catch-up over coffee with Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald and Councillors.
The formal meeting was led by the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce.

The continued search to secure a bank for Oakey with help from Garth Hamilton.
AdvertisementThe new housing estates and the need to provide services to accommodate for the new residents.
Having the former TRC Depot on Lorrimer Street cleaned so it can be used by the community potentially as a training ground, or for use by a not-for-profit community group.
Other Chambers of Commerce and District Alliances that were present were from Millmerran, Pittsworth, Crows Nest, Westbrook and Highfields.
Crows Nest Progress, Recreation and Tourism Association reported that things were generally positive with local residents now having a new space for their dogs, with the Skelly Recreation Reserve off-leash area officially complete and open to the public.
One long term issue Crows Nest is facing is a lack of parking. During times of peak demand, drivers are having to park on the grass.
Highfields Chamber of Commerce said the Highfields and District Medical Centre does not have enough space, and is ill-equipped to cater for a growing population. Doctors are keen to work there but there is not enough room.
Millmerran Commerce and Progress Inc. provided updates on a number of local priorities, including preparations for the Camp Oven Festival, a shared zone for the Campbell Street Business District, and ongoing advocacy to restore extended opening hours at the Millmerran Library, and at the Millmerran Waste Management Facility.
