Oakey players dominate selection in Toowoomba Davis Shield XI

Four Oakey players were selected in Toowoomba’s Under 21 Davis Shield XI, which defeated Warwick on the weekend.

The Davis Shield is an Under 21 competition between Toowoomba, Warwick, Lockyer and Stanthorpe Associations commenced on Saturday.

Toowoomba featured Oakey Junior Cricket Club ex-players Frederick Bellert, Billy Sipple (captain) and current players Jake Spies and Benjamin Schmidt.

Toowoomba travelled to “The Bull Pen” (Slade Park) in Warwick, Billy won the toss and sent Warwick into bat.

Oakey featured strongly with the ball. 

Fred Bellert  opened the bowling (2-10 off 7 overs), and was ably assisted by Jake Spies (2-17 off 5 overs), Ben Schmidt (1-13 off 3 overs).

Toowoomba had Warwick all out in the 33rd over for 81 and reached the target of 82 in the 21st over finishing five down. 

Oakey batters contributed their part with Ben Schmidt hitting 15 off 28, and Billy Sipple 11 off 11.

Next round sees Toowoomba play Lockyer Valley.
