Oakey Show Society Presidency up for grabs
Oakey Show Society President Mrs Judy Byers will conclude a ten-year stint in the role at the Show Society’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday night, June 16th at Greenwood Hall

Mrs Byers says the successful nominee will get the opportunity to be part of a good team of people working with the local community.
The Show Society Presidency brings with it the opportunity to learn to become a better leader, to advocate for the Oakey community, and improve the Show experience.
“I’ve met heaps of people in positions of influence,” Mrs Byers said.
Elected in 2016, the main achievements of Mrs Byers’ time in office have been the construction of the Marsh Pavilion which has become the centre of the Showgrounds, new gates and fences, and keeping the Society afloat during Covid.
In 2026, the Showgrounds precinct is also used by other groups including the Oakey Men’s Shed, Toowoomba and District Old Machinery Society and the Toowoomba Polocrosse Club.
Whoever fills the role of President will have a reliable executive team to guide them.
At this stage, the hard working Show Secretary Dallas Hawley and Treasurer Betty Richter are expected to stay on the Committee.
Mrs Byers said she is happy to assist from the sidelines, but only if asked.
The long serving President said she never would have thought she would have spent 10 years in charge of a Show Society.
“I’ve always said that I never thought I’d be President of a Show Society, ever,” she said.
