Opportunities for job seekers in Clifton

In the face of ongoing workforce challenges shared by many employers, Clifton Community Health Services (CCHS) has announced its participation in the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work Scheme with courses in Building Maintenance, Hospitality and Administration.

While this proposal marks CCHS’s first venture of this kind, the organisation has a strong tradition of offering entry-level opportunities to local community members.

Many residents have had their first job or work experience at the CCHS precinct.

The initiative’s goal is to employ a total of 18 trainees, divided into six groups of three, over two consecutive six-month periods.

Nine trainees will be working across various CCHS departments, including Maintenance (including grounds keeping), Hotel Services (kitchen, food service, cleaning, and laundry), and Administration teams.

Each group will undertake specialised training:

  • Cert 1 Construction for the Maintenance team

  • Cert 1 Hospitality for the Hotel Services team

  • Cert 1 Business for the Administration team

CCHS prides itself on its ability to foster the economic sustainability of the district.

This initiative has provided essential funding for the newly launched Clifton Community Work Skills project, aimed
at creating entry-level opportunities for disadvantaged job seekers within the local community.

Mr Rodney Watton, Executive Director – Community, said he is excited for the project.

“We see this as a dual opportunity - to cultivate our future employees while giving members of our local community a chance to gain six months of full- time paid employment, attain nationally recognised qualifications, and receive support in securing further employment or training,” Mr Watton said.

“This project opens doors for trainees to earn a wage for six months while developing highly sought-after work place skills.

“Even if you’ve faced difficulties in finding and retaining employment in the past, this could be your first step toward achieving your employment goals.”
