Oakey State High School's teachers may have beaten the students for the third Pink Stumps event running, but the biggest victory came in the amount of donations received.

Oakey State High School turned pink for its biannual Staff vs. Students cricket match on Thursday 31st August, in support of the McGrath Foundation’s mission to ensure that no one goes through breast cancer without the care of a breast care nurse.

The McGrath Foundation raises funds to support people with breast cancer by providing specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses where they are most needed across Australia.

It is through the support of incredible community groups like Oakey High that the McGrath Foundation can continue providing this crucial support to local families experiencing breast cancer.

“It’s the McGrath Foundation’s goal to fund 250 McGrath Breast Care Nurses by 2025, as we work towards our mission of ensuring that no one misses out on care. Events like this are truly helping us to make a difference and move towards that goal; we couldn’t do it without you,” McGrath Foundation Ambassador & Director Tracy Bevan said.

Pink Stumps Day was organised by the Senior Business Studies students as their major piece of assessment for this unit.

Year 12 business student and event organiser Bree, said everyone in the class had been working hard to make sure that all students were excited for the event.

“It is meaningful for us because one of our teachers is battling breast cancer at the moment,” she said.

Year 11 class member Akhobi thanked the Oakey Junior Cricket Club for helping to co-ordinate a training session with renowned cricket coach Kent Reimers.

Fellow class member Josh said the class had made an effort to engage  those not participating in the match itself.

The event included popular “best costume” and “best mullet” competitions for teachers and students.
