Pittsworth backs Variety Bash duo
In typical community-minded Pittsworth spirit, the town got well and truly behind the local entrants in this year’s Variety Bash, travelling 3,900 kilometres from Toowoomba to Cairns.
Caroline Coutts and Tracey Johnston recently returned from their mighty trip in a 1985 Toyota Corona named The Virus.
“It was extra special for me because of the support from our amazing community of Pittsworth,” Caroline said.
“We had to raise $8500 to be able to go on the event and because of this awesome little town we raised $11,500.”
The annual event is the major fundraiser for Variety Queensland which raises funds for disabled, disadvantaged and sick children.
This year’s rally raised more than $1.6 million.
Caroline had been told theirs was the first Pittsworth vehicle ever to participate in the famous bush bash.
She said a highlight of the trip was seeing the excitement on the faces of school children at the schools they visited along
the way with Variety providing gifts for each child.
“Our trusty Toyota Corona never missed a beat thanks to Follington Auto Repairs.”
And the car number assigned them when they first signed up was rather apt - 4356 - Pittsworth’s postcode.
She and Tracey are now looking forward to getting planning for next year’s Variety Bash from Goondiwindi to the Gold Coast via Lightning Ridge.
