Pittsworth pair defend Premiership
Rugby League talents Abbey Markey and Morgan Prentice, originally from Pittsworth but now part of the Highfield’s Eagles football family, successfully defended the club’s Premiership on Sunday at Clive Berghofer Stadium in the Toowoomba Rugby League (TRL) Open Womens Grand Final.

The duo had a strong season with the Eagles, and delivered right up until the final whistle, securing their 44-0 win against Oakey.
Abbey, the Eagle’s five-eighth, was pulling the strings as a key playmaker.
With clever passes, she spread the ball out wide to create overlaps.
Morgan, the Eagle’s fullback was the foundation at the back, sweeping up loose balls and defending with grit.
In attack, she finished with a try scoring double.
There were two other double scorers on the day including Taylor Horrobin and Player of the Match Katelyn Collie.
As for Oakey, they failed to make ten metres in the initial kick off and that summed up their day.
At half-time the Eagles led 24-0, and Oakey struggled to break their defensive line, letting them run away with the match.
Highfields’ coach Wayne Collie, who is a former Pittsworth Danes player, said their forwards led well and the edges did the rest.
Gatton is currently the only team which is three-time Premiers in the Womens competition, but not for long if Highfields can secure another victory next season.
Abbey and Morgan have played for Highfields since 2024 and 2023 respectively.
The pair attended school together in Pittsworth but before taking to the footy field, were team mates on the Under 18 Mountaineers Basketball team.
