Pittsworth Platinum Medical Centre changes

The decision by Platinum Health Group to pull out of its Pittsworth Platinum Medical Centre - one of only two in the town - has been met with bitter disappointment from local residents.

“It’s catastrophic for Pittsworth,” said one resident who preferred to remain anonymous.

“People will be forced to go into Toowoomba and if they go for their doctor’s appointment they’ll get their groceries and their petrol in there too.

“I think it’s appalling.”

Platinum Health Group said in a written statement that it “regrets to advise that it will cease management of the Pittsworth Platinum Medical Centre effective Friday 27th October, 2023.

“This difficult decision comes after careful consideration of the ongoing challenges faced in recruiting general practitioners and nurses, the impact of successive governments under-funding general practice, which have significantly impacted our ability to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the Pittsworth community.

“Recognising the importance of primary health care for the community, we are pleased to announce that Beauaraba Living will manage the medical centre from October 27. Until then, the practice will continue to operate under current arrangements.

“For patients who require ongoing care, Platinum Health Group is committed to accommodating them at our other medical sites, including Village Medical Centre Highfields, St. Andrews Medical Centre, and Platinum on North, Toowoomba.

“Platinum Health Group acknowledges and appreciates Beauaraba Living’s dedication to the Pittsworth community.

“We will work closely with them during this transition period and in the future to ensure a seamless transfer of patient care.”

Beauaraba Living was contacted for comment.
