Pittsworth reps now Battalion medallists

Local rugby league achievers Lucy Lloyd-Morgan, Natalya Franklin, Annika Franklin, Janet Morofa and Alex Harber have walked away from last weekend’s XXXX QRL Central Division 47th Battalion Women’s Carnival in Bundaberg as undefeated champions, smashing Sunshine Coast Falcons 26–4 in the Grand Final.

Pittsworth Danes representatives competed in Bundaberg at the XXXX QRL Central Division 47th Battalion Carnival as Toowoomba Clydesdales on the weekend.

The ladies traded their red and green home colours for navy blue as representatives of Toowoomba Clydesdales.

The squad was led by our very own Lucy Lloyd-Morgan with the assistance of Vice Captain Ella Taylor.

Lloyd-Morgan said it was a great experience with a mix of experienced players and young guns, and a game plan which centred around the strength of their forwards.

“[They’re] a solid group of forwards that are hungry for that ball, love those big runs, absolutely are dominant up the middle,” she said.

“To come away from this weekend and build every single game, from our first game through to the Grand Final - it’s been a great experience.”

On the first day of tournament, the Clydesdale Women defeated Rockhampton (24–8) and Central Highlands (14–0).

In the Grand Final on Sunday, Chelsea Middleton, a Clifton local, was crowned Player of the Tournament after a superb weekend.

The Franklin twins, Annika and Natalya, brought a sparkle to the side, both scoring tries in the final and performing well across the tournament.

Clydesdales Women’s team coach Richard Dugdale was thrilled with the performance of his team on the end of a tough Carnival preparation.

The experience was “very exciting for all the team, a super effort overall,” he said.

On the flip-side, the Toowoomba Clydesdales Men lost two matches in round one of the XXXX QRL A Grade Men’s Trophy Carnival against Bundaberg and Rockhampton, ultimately conceding their chance to be in the Grand Final.

Blake Cullen was selected from the Danes A Grade side for the team.

The Sunshine Coast Falcons ended up victorious in the Grand Final against Bundaberg.
