Pittsworth Women’s Shed whips up Biggest Morning Tea
At the Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser on May 13, an impressive $1325 was raised by the Pittsworth Women’s Shed for Cancer Council.
Organiser, Debbie Turner, said it was a worthy cause and one that was close to the hearts of many of the Women’s Shed members, who have either watched their loved ones go through cancer treatment or have been diagnosed with cancer themselves.
The Women’s Shed volunteers were delighted to surpass last year’s fundraising total by $125, with Ms Turner praising the generosity of the local community.
“For a small community, raising that much money is amazing,” she said.
A delicious spread of homemade treats greeted nearly 50 guests at the sit-down morning tea.
Ms Turner baked an incredible 90 plain scones and 50 pumpkin scones, spending most of the day prior in the kitchen, baking with her helper and granddaughter, Darcy.
Support flowed in from locals, with 14 businesses contributing to the fundraiser including Ray White Rural and Lilly Pilly Style Boutique.
Guests also enjoyed a number of raffle prizes throughout the morning, adding to the community atmosphere.
A bus from Beauaraba Living brought nine residents to Pearl’s Precinct to join in the morning tea.
With plenty of food still available at the end of the event, attendees were invited to donate $5 for a takeaway container filled with extra goodies to share with loved ones.
The idea proved popular and raised an additional $50 on the day.
The funds received by Australia’s leading cancer charity will be put toward supporting people impacted by cancer, advocating for the community on cancer issues, and finding new ways to better detect and treat cancer.
The successful event highlighted the generous spirit of the Pittsworth community and the dedication of the Women’s Shed volunteers, who all worked incredibly hard to prepare for the day.
