Poor form as tyres dumped

More than 30 tyres and a feral pig carcass have been found dumped near the railway bridge at Kings Creek.

The dumped tyres and pig were seen by a local resident over the past few days and reported to Council and police.

Not only have the tyres been dumped, but they have been dumped somewhere that if there was a lot of rain, the flow of Ned’s Gully into Kings Creek could potentially take them into downstream properties and cause damage to fencing and whatever lies in their path.

This is far from the only dumping incident in recent memory.

High numbers of feral pigs last year saw many carcasses dumped across the district rather than disposed of correctly.

In January this year, an approximately 80 metre strip of the roadside along Herzig Road at Elphinstone was littered with a great quantity of dumped rubbish that could have caused immense damage to any vehicle that came into contact with it.

TRC advises that anyone caught illegally dumping and littering can be issued a warning, issued a clean-up notice ordering the offender to remedy the offence or issued with an on-the-spot fine.

Littering and/or illegal dumping can be reported to TRC by using the ‘Snap Send Solve’ app, by lodging a complaint form online or by calling 131 872.

Reports can also be made to the Queensland Government online, by phone to 13 QGOV (13 74 68) or by emailing illegaldumping@des.qld.gov.au

State penalties start from $322 for littering and $2,580 for illegal dumping offences, which is waste material over 200 litres (an average wheelie bin) in volume.

Toowoomba Regional Council has been contacted for comment about this specific incident.
