PSHS’ impressive representation at Darling Downs sports
Throughout semester one, 13 Pittsworth State High School (PSHS) students were selected as Darling Downs representatives to compete in various School Sport Championships across the State.

Growing up playing local sport is a tradition that brings back fond memories for most people - particularly in Pittsworth where sporting clubs are in abundance.
But it’s often these club competitions that develop and nurture the skills of those who grow to become accomplished athletes.
While PSHS has always been able to claim some representation at Darling Downs School Sports, this year has seen an impressive display of talent across eight different State Championships.
There was strong representation in the Girls Rugby League with six students being selected in various age groups.
Some of the girls even traded their green and red Dane’s colours for a weekend in Darling Down’s royal blue and red.
Isabelle Duncombe, Josie Hollis, Bridie Sutton and Frankie Pile competed in the 15-16 Years Girls Rugby League State Championships between 8th and 11th May at the Gold Coast.
Angela Robertson and Ella Hollis were selected for the 17-18 Years side, which also competed that weekend at the Gold Coast.
Aleisha and Amelia Stevens were selected for the 13-16 Years Girls Basketball team, after Darling Downs trials were held in Toowoomba in April.
They travelled to Mackay to take part in the State Championships from 5th to 8th June.
School senior and Vice Captain, Keira Quinn, was selected for the 17-19 Years Girls Basketball team and competed in the four day State competition in Cairns.
The team went up against Met North, Capricornia, Northern, Wide Bay, and Peninsula.
Keira said the girls came together, working as one cohesive unit to give every game their all.
“The DD side applied an insane amount of defensive pressure and executed some great passing,” she said.
In a change of pace, Malachi Garratt was one of eight representatives from the Darling Downs who competed in the 13-19 Years Triathlon State Championships at Hervey Bay, with a time of 1:19:38.
He is yet to compete in the 10-19 Years Cross Country State Championships at Boondall between 18th and 20th July.
Eric Lovell and Rafe are lacing up their sneakers to participate in the Orienteering State Championships at Kingaroy, which begin tomorrow.
Eric has had great success in orienteering, and represented Queensland at the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships in Armidale last year.
“We congratulate all of our students who have received these accolades so far this year,” a spokesperson for the school said.
Darling Downs School Sport was established in 1979 and covers the areas of Lockyer, Toowoomba, Southern Downs, Goondiwindi and Western Downs.
