PSS art exhibition highlights importance of sustainability
Pittsworth State School (PSS) welcomed over 400 people to its biennial art exhibition on Friday, 1st August, displaying a variety of colourful artworks at the Function Centre in reflection of the theme "Where the Forest Meets the Sea".

The exhibition, which was open to the public between 5.30 and 8.30pm, was inspired by Jeannie Baker's beloved picture book, and encompassed the cross-curriculum priority of sustainability.
"Our students created stunning works that explored the rich beauty of nature, blending the vibrant textures of the forest with the serene colours of the sea," music and art teacher Beth Wheeldon said.
Each child created a vivid acrylic painting, reflecting not only imagination and creativity but also skill development.
The classes experimented with colours to create the following: a tropical fish (Prep B, Prep S), rainbow lorikeet (1C, 1HJ), gecko (2H, 2/3W), platypus (3A, 3/4B), the ocean (4E, 5CN) and rainforest (5/6S, 6MP).
The P. & C. supported the art exhibition with catering.
Although it was free entry for all the artists, it cost a gold coin for patrons to enter the exhibition.
Many families, friends, staff and members of the school community enjoyed viewing the artistic accomplishments of the students at PSS.
Between 11am and midday, the school hosted a ‘Seniors’ event allowing the older generation to see the exhibition and enjoy a one-off performance by the choir.
The group performed a variety of songs including Absolutely Everybody (Vanessa Amorosi), Unwritten (Natasha Bedingfield) and Blame It On the Boogie (Jackson 5).
There was also an ABBA medley of Dancing Queen, Waterloo and Mamma Mia.
The choir, which comprised students in Grades 1 to 6, is a dedicated group which meets every Wednesday morning for practice.
“These kids are very committed,” Mrs Wheeldon said.
