Quinalow are Dalby Cricket champions
Quinalow have been crowned the 2023-24 Dalby Cricket Association champions after taking out Criterions by 48 runs in the Grand Final held at Dalby No.1 Ground over the weekend
In a low scoring encounter, Quinalow managed to put 147 on the board thanks mainly to Craig Maynard, who anchored the innings with a score of 45, including two fours.
Quinalow put on 32 for the first wicket to see off Criterions’ dangerous Wilkes opening bowling partnership.
Bryce Riethmuller was the first to go, caught off the bowling of Thomas for 20, including one six and one four, who then made it 2/32 by bowling James Kucks for a duck.
When Syd Weedon was dismissed for 30, the scorecard read 3/60.
Christ Groat (10), Michael Bartowski and Zane Kennedy all stuck around long enough to provide handy support for Maynard, but two runouts (Groat and McLoughlin) did not help Quinalow’s cause.
The batting fell away towards the end, as the last three pairs could only put on 11 runs.
Two wickets to W. Skene and a third to Thomas ended the innings 12 overs short on a total of 147.
A good bowling effort was needed and Criterions were never really in the hunt after losing their opening pair early.
Each time a partnership began to form, a Quinalow bowler found a wicket.
Newton (33) and Wilkes (31) provided the best resistance for Criterions.
James Kucks picked up the last two wickets, bowling Newton to clinch the victory and spark celebrations.

In an inter-competition showdown the previous weekend, Central Downs champions Kulpi defeated Quinalow to claim district bragging rights.
