Re-opening tipped for end of May

If all goes to plan, users of the Greenmount Waste Management Facility (WMF) should be able to again use the facility by the end of May.

A spokesperson for Toowoomba Regional Council said Council had hoped to have the facility re-opened by the end of April however recent wet weather has pushed this time frame back a month.

Greenmount WMF has been closed since early September last year as it undergoes extensive bulk earthworks to cap and close the current landfill.

It will initially be re-opened as a temporary transfer station while a new state-of-the-art Waste Management Facility is constructed.

The Clifton tip has had its hours and operating days extended to accommodate the temporary changes and the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility has also been available to use.

The closure has been especially burdensome for those who do not have regular bin collection and have had to drive an extra 15 or 20 minutes each way to drop off their regular household waste.
