Remembrance Day commemorations

One-hundred-and-seven years ago, at 11am on 11th November 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front bringing an end to the Great War.

Many returned from WWI with physical wounds. Private Charles (Charlie) Henry Stevens had his legs amputated after being wounded in action in France in June 1918. He obtained a tricycle wheelchair in England before returning to Australia and used it at various times until his death. We still pause to remember this event in our nation’s history to honour those souls lost in WW1.

We pay tribute to those who returned home, changed forever.

Many with physical and physiological wounds.

Most returned home and resumed life as best they could.

We now call these Men the ‘ANZACs’.

This was to be the ‘War to End All Wars’.

History tells us that warfare has become commonplace in our world.

Many men and women have passed through the ranks of Australia’s Defence Forces, both here in Australia and the far flung places of the earth.

Their contribution is no less significant than those of the ANZACs.

On Australia’s behalf we currently have young men and women of our Defense Forces deployed to undisclosed locations around the globe with uncertain tasks ahead of them.

We wish them safe travel and speedy return home.

On Tuesday 11th  November we commemorate Remembrance Day.

To pause at 11am for just one minute to reflect on those who have served our country.

Pittsworth RSL Sub-Branch will be conducting a service at the Soldiers Memorial School of Arts, 83 Yandilla Street, Pittsworth.
