The hall was packed for the end of a 70-year journey.

Some audience members had travelled from as far away as Brisbane and Miles to witness the performance.

Chad Morgan senior regaled the audience with his old classics and humour.

In the first half he got up and performed four or five comedy/jokes, before coming back at the end for another set of songs.

Son Chad Morgan junior performed separately as did musicians Dean Perrett and Kylie Hogan.

“(The crowd) thought it was brilliant,” committee member Shirley Heinemann said.

“There were quite a few kids there and young ones who we wouldn’t normally get.”

“He hasn’t lost anything,” audience member Kevin Byers reflected.

“He’s still got a quick wit.”

At the end, the whole hall stood up and applauded for Chad, who was inspired to go back up the stairs for an encore.

“With a reception like that, I’ll try and do one more song,” he said.

Chad is a true character, and having been on the circuit for 70 years has been seen by audience members at his highs and lows.

The concert marks the end of a career which began on radio program Australia’s Amateur Hour in the 1950s.
