Shed Men ready for adventure of a lifetime
What began as a comment and a few chuckles, then flickered to life and was suddenly buoyant, is now an inspiring journey set to launch into Men’s Shed history next month.
And it all began in Pittsworth.
We’re talking, of course, about the daring feat of adventure and fundraising known as Shed on the Murray which will see a crew from the Pittsworth & District Men’s Shed embark on a five-day rafting journey down the Murray River.
Getting to their launch site in Yarrawonga will be half the fun with various Men’s Sheds along the way hosting the Pittsworth crew for a series of events and fundraisers - including Goondiwindi, Moree, Coonabarabran, Dubbo and West Wyalong.
Skipper, Merv Hinneberg said this week there was “still a lot to be done but we’re getting there.”
The donations are rolling in too - all of which go to It’s A Bloke Thing and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Joining Merv on the raft will be Trevor Gull and Jason Driscoll with Russell Noffke operating the safety boat. Merv said locals are welcome to attend a farewell breakfast at 7am on August 2 at the Pioneer Village - anyone intending to be there should RSVP to Allen Farnham via email to pittsworthanddistrictmens shed.com
In the meantime, watch out for Men’s Shed raffle ticket sellers outside the newsagent in the lead-up to their departure.
You can also make tax-deductible donations direct to the Men’s Shed to the Heritage Bank account - BSB 638-070 A/C No.
