At just 16 years old, Shelby Turl is a name to look out for in the future of Australian equestrianism.

The competition took place at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre in Tamworth and saw hundreds of participants compete across dozens of categories.

Competing alongside her trusted equine partner, Lena Acres “Lacey,” Shelby participated in a range of disciplines including dressage and show hunter classes.

In the fiercely competitive arena of dressage, Shelby and Lacey showcased exceptional skill and determination, finishing in fifth place in both the Novice 2.2 and Preliminary 1.2 categories.

Despite being only 16, Shelby went head-to-head with adult competitors.

In the Youth Show Hunter category, Shelby again showcased her talent, clinching a well-deserved third place.

However, the pinnacle of her performance came when she and Lacey were crowned Australian National Champion Show Hunter Galloway.

Earlier this year, Shelby received the Clifton Australia Day Junior Sportsperson of the Year.

This honour reflects not only her exceptional talent but also her commitment to excellence both in and out of the arena.

It serves as a testament to her dedication and passion for equestrian sports, inspiring others to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination.

After her performance at the Australian Quarter Horse Nationals, Shelby expressed gratitude for the support she received from her family, coaches, and fellow competitors.

She said dedication and hard work were important in achieving success and hoped to inspire other young riders to pursue their passion.
