Shortlisted for national award

The Clifton Courier published an article last year on Clifton State High School graduate Shane Wormington after he gained employment as a stable hand at Greenmount’s Clear Mountain Fairview Horse Stud.

In what might be the good news story of the year, he is now in line with four other nominees for a Racing Australia Award as Newcomer of the Year (Stud or Stable).

It seems Shane has made every post a winner at Clear Mountain Fairview Stud where his mentor, Mick Frappell said he has become a valued staff member and one who can always be relied upon.

Shane has a range of responsibilities that include leading brood mares from their stalls, washing horses, working with foals and in recent months helping prepare yearlings for the Magic Millions auction on the Gold Coast.

Mick Frappell and Shane’s NDIS carer are full of praise for the teenage boy as he makes the adjustment from school to full time work.

The award Shane has made the short list for is quite a prestigious one and he is up against some stiff opposition with well known names such as Gai Waterhouse having nominated one of her stable hands.

Clear Mountain Stud has given Shane a great opportunity to establish himself in the equine industry and Shane seems to have grabbed it with both hands.

Away from working with horses Shane and his father enjoy ballroom dancing and travel all around the Downs  to dancing venues.

Good luck Shane.
