Clifton State High School students and staff had the opportunity on Thursday and Friday 9 and 10 October to showcase the school’s Vocational Certificate courses to representatives from educational regions from all over the state... and our local High School put on an impressive performance.

The range of Vocational Certificate courses on offer at the school caters for work related skills from all areas of the work force with even more commencing next year.

One of the main objectives of any educational institution is to provide a pathway for students into the workforce and our local High School clearly has the facilities and the staff to achieve this objective.

What sets Clifton High apart from most schools is the recognition that being located in a rural area really demands students should have the opportunity to develop skills and interests relevant to a farming community.

Vet Courses available in Hospitality, Agriculture and Rural Operations offer students many pathways into the workforce.

Two courses that clearly achieve this end are the Vocational Certificate Courses 2 & 3 in Horse Care and it’s obvious this is a favourite of many students.

The Darling Downs is an important equine region for both recreational activities and commercial equine enterprises so is a perfect fit for like-minded students.

A Vocational Certificate 3 Course in Rural Operations is also  a perfect fit for rural students.

A vocational Hospitality Course and an Engineering Course are popular and cater for the other end of the work spectrum.

The school hopes to begin a course in automotive engineering next year.

Clifton High is already attracting students out of its catchment area in places such as Warwick, Cambooya and Hodgson Vale because of the work related vocational courses on offer and will continue to do so next year.
