Southern Downs Feral Pig Forum
Allora was one of six locations to host a Forum last week led by John Scriven, Co-ordinator of the Feral Pigs Program for the SWQ Regional Organisations of Councils.

About two dozen interested people attended the Forum held at Allora.
The aim was for landholders, producers and community members to learn about strengthening biosecurity and biodiversity and to receive hands on advice for effective control of feral pigs. Questions and comments were also put to the co-ordinator about these pests.
Part of the National Feral Pig action plan is control with combinations of best practice methods including baiting, trapping, aerial shooting, ground shooting and exclusion fencing which needs to be strategically used by landholders.
There’s also an opportunity to record Feral Pig activity through FeralPigScan which is a free resource for landholders, Landcare groups, community groups, local Councils, professional pest controllers and biosecurity groups. It has been designed by landholders for mapping and monitoring feral pigs in their local area.
The more information recorded, the more informative the feral pig
map will become over time. Features of the website include - Feral pig activity and sightings
Damage (such as crop damage or soil disturbance)
Control activities (eg. baiting, trapping, shooting)
Photos from monitoring cameras
