St Monica’s kids create five murals for New Acland Information Centre
Asked by New Acland to create some artwork for the NAC Information Centre, 50 St. Monica’s students banded together to give their best interpretation of what the mine site looked like.
Although New Acland supplied the funds for the materials, the design concept and painting were carried out by the 50 students who were members of the “Art Club”, overseen by Year 3 teacher Mrs Chris Conneely.
The images depict a variety of scenes from in and around the mine site, with trucks, coal train carriages, tractors, and a Bonza plane flying overhead.
The five murals will be added as “windows” to decorate a bare room in the New Acland Information Centre.
The murals were handed over to New Acland Community Liaison Officers Linda Sexton and Melanie Williamson.
In other New Acland news, the Community Investment Fund applications will open again on the 1st of March.
“The Community Investment fund supports community groups to work on larger projects in the community that offer sustainable and long-term benefits to the communities that they operate in,” New Acland Community Advisor Rebecca Meacham said.
In the past the Community Investment Fund has offered support, including to Jondaryan State School, Goombungee State School, Oakey State High School, the Oakey Show Society and Oakey C&K who were beneficiaries in the last round of CIF awards in September last year.
The application forms are not online, so applicants will need to head to 112 Campbell Street, Oakey.
Community Sponsorship applications are always open.
