Catholic Education Week (CEW) is celebrated in the third week of term three each year.

It is an opportunity for all 312 Catholic schools in Queensland to celebrate and promote their distinctive mission and ethos.

Catholic education in Queensland strives to make a difference in the lives of those in Catholic schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.

St. Stephen’s Primary School celebrated CEW with a Mass and invited students’ grandparents to join them.

Morning tea and a visit to the classroom followed.

At the Mass, students received a Spirit of Catholic Education Award, for living out the message of Jesus by spreading kindness and joy, striving to help others, consistently showing love, and being enthusiastic participants of Religious Instruction.

Assistant Principal Fiona Drew was nominated for an Excellence of Leadership and the Spirit of Education Award in the Toowoomba Diocese.

Nominees are recognised across a number of categories for their work, leadership, service, initiative, and creating positive change for Indigenous students.

Nineteen people were nominated across the Darling Downs including a teacher from St. Francis de Sales School in Clifton, and two teachers from St. Monica’s School in Oakey.

The award was presented to a teacher from St. Ursula’s College in Toowoomba.

The awards recognise the outstanding contributions made to Catholic education throughout Queensland.
