Tough choice for Oakey grandma

Oakey swimming club legend Beryl Achilles had a hard time deciding which team to cheer for recently as her granddaughter Jada Ferguson faced off against granddaughter Shenae Ciesiolka’s Western Clydesdales team.

A cavalcade of Achilles, Fergusons and Ciesiolkas made their way to Clive Berghofer Stadium for the clash on Saturday, which was an important one in the finals race.

Granddaughter Ciesiolka pulled out of the game with injury which perhaps made the decision a little easier as to who Beryl would support.

In the end it was Jada’s Norths Devils team which ran out 26-18 winners with Ferguson kicking three goals.

Interviewed by Toowoomba Rugby League after the game Beryl said, “It’s been lovely to be able to come down and watch her.”

“I haven’t (been able to) catch her too much, so it’s lovely to watch her.

Beryl wouldn’t be drawn on who was the best footballer in the family.

“I think they’re all really good (the ones) that do play,” she said.

“I like them all and they’re all very good to me.”
