For the 2026/27 Federal Budget, TRC says it is seeking support for two major priorities:

1. Cressbrook Dam Safety Improvement Project – an $80 million contribution to deliver critical dam safety upgrades that protect downstream communities in the Somerset Region, ensure long‑term water security, and align with contemporary safety standards. The safety improvements to Cressbrook Dam, including widening the spillway and raising the crest, will ensure the dam can safely pass larger volumes of water in a major flood event.

2. Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct (Stage 1) at Charlton – a $30 million contribution for a project that will deliver modern sporting facilities that support regional talent pathways into professional sport, attract major events, and enhance active lifestyle opportunities. The TRSP will be developed across eight precincts with sporting fields catering for football (soccer), rugby league, rugby union, Australian Rules Football, cricket, softball and the athletics facility.

“These projects are essential to the future of our Region,” Mayor Geoff McDonald said on Monday.

“Safe, secure water infrastructure and high‑quality community sport facilities are fundamental to supporting population growth, strengthening local industries and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”

TRC says it will actively pursue Federal funding throughout the year through major national program, including:

- Water and Waste Infrastructure Funding

- Housing Infrastructure Funding

- Disaster Ready Funding

- Housing Support Program

Additionally, TRC says it will continue to advocate for investment in nationally significant infrastructure, particularly projects that strengthen Australia’s freight network and improve connectivity such as Inland Rail.

“Investment in nationally significant infrastructure is essential to building the transport networks Australia will rely on in the decades ahead,” Mayor McDonald said.

“Our Region is central to that network, which is why we continue to call on the Federal Government to deliver Inland Rail to Gowrie and Toowoomba as planned.

“Improved transport connectivity delivers lasting benefits for our Region, for Queensland and for the nation.”
